Environmentally and socially responsible grape growing and winemaking is nothing new, but what was once labeled a trend seems poised to turn into an industry standard. Often billed as the new buzz-word in the wine business, "sustainability" is defined as a holistic approach to growing and food production that respects
the environment, the ecosystem and even society. Interested in energy efficiency, water conservation, habitat diversity, and working conditions? Sustainability is the overarching theme that addresses all of these issues, and then some.

Facilitated by Kris O’Connor, Executive Director of the Central Coast Vineyard Team, a non-profit grower group dedicated to sustainable winegrowing since 1994 and organizing entity behind Certified Sustainably Grown Project which launches this year, this class will bring farmers and winemakers together to discuss how they put sustainability in practice. You will also be able to taste wines grown from farms that respect and protect both natural and human resources.

In this class you will hear from a panel of winemakers utilizing sustainable practices in the production of their wine, the pro’s and con’s of certifying wine and a vineyard as organic, and taste through samples of each winemaker’s wine.
